Dramatization
Richard II thrives in audio. These dramatizations capture the play’s rich, musical language, its simmering political tension, and the emotional unraveling of a king who speaks in poetry while his world fractures around him. Expect full-cast performances, atmospheric sound, and productions that lean into the grandeur, pageantry, and quiet tragedy at the heart of the story.

Histories and The Like
Here’s a bunch of books about the Historical Richard II and the world he lived in. There are a great many others, but many of them have no audio editions. In sticking with the spirit of the site, we have decided to only list audiobooks here.
The late-medieval England Richard II inherited was a landscape forged by dynastic ambition, dangerous favourites, plague, and the lingering shadow of Plantagenet power. The books collected here illuminate that world from every angle: the rise and fall of families like the Despensers, the political and personal tragedies surrounding Richard and Henry IV, the catastrophic social shock of the Black Death, and the vast Plantagenet legacy that defined the age.
Taken together, they offer a vivid, grounded portrait of the real historical forces behind perhaps Shakespeare’s most poetic king.
