Twelfth Night unfolds through the lens of gender confusion, a hallmark of comedic storytelling. Shipwrecked on the coast of Illyria, Viola and her twin brother Sebastian are separated, leading Viola to disguise herself as a man named Cesario. When she arrives at Duke Orsino’s court, she becomes a messenger for his unrequited love for the aloof Lady Olivia. Meanwhile, Olivia is also the object of affection for multiple suitors, including the self-important steward Malvolio and the inept Sir Andrew Aguecheek. As desire intertwines with disguise, Viola finds herself in love with Orsino while Olivia falls for Cesario, setting the stage for a tangled web of romantic entanglements. The arrival of Sebastian complicates matters as he marries Olivia, believing her to be Cesario, leading to a climactic revelation in the final act.
